Who Am I?
BIG MOUNTAINS, BIG SKIES, BIG WATERS! THAT IS WHAT I do!
Based in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, I find endless inspiration in native western landscapes that are often times wild and bold in their beauty, and at other times subdued and sublime in presentation. What set's me apart as a photographer is my design and environmental background as well as being a passionate adventurer with a zest for life and wanderlust. Often my photos are taken on extensive hiking and backpacking trips in to remote and wild places where I easily see beautiful compositions and patterns. I focus on natural systems, their splendor and environmental conservation.
My youth was spent in the spectacular Adirondack State Park of NY, where I developed an affinity for natural places. I have a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from Cornell University and a master's degree in environmental planning and community development from Prescott College. I've dedicated 25 years to California water resources management; and conserving and protecting water, fish and wildlife and wetland resources. Delving deep in the social, political and economic conflicts surrounding natural resources further strengthened my reverence for life sustaining ecosystems. I believe that nature has the power to inspire, bring joy, and increase motivation. I believe that photography brings forth the light of our lifegiving force.
My goals are to: share the beauty that abounds in nature; use photography to grow community; and use photography to educate and inspire. In my community I am looking to partner with organizations and collaborate with artists to provide art in areas that are lacking and develop public art projects - schools, offices, senior/nursing homes, libraries and public spaces.
